OUR COMMUNITY NEWS FOR TODAY AND THE COMING WEEK
CRUNCH and shoeboxes!
The CRUNCH children recently learned about Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. The children who receive the shoeboxes love to find a picture or letter from the person who packed it, so the CRUNCH children posed for a photo to be included in some shoeboxes.
EVENTS AND NOTICES
Planning for the fête!
Preparations for the annual fête on 21st October are underway. The stalls this year will be:
BBQ, Hot Potatoes, Devonshire Tea, Cakes and Jams, Books, Craft, Nearly New, Second-hand Jewellery, Lucky Dip, Chocolate Toss, Plants and Trash &Treasure.
A new stall this year will be Second Hand Craft Supplies such as wool, material, cottons, scrapbooking supplies etc.
We would welcome donations of items for all the stalls and we still need volunteers to help on the day and to clean up afterwards.
The next meeting of the committee will be after church on 1st October. If you would like to volunteer, donate items, bake cakes or scones, or you have items which you would like to have collected from your home, please contact the office 9741 1084. (From Alan Thompson)
The fête – Saturday 21 October
Bunnings BBQ and Kids Hope
The recent BBQ at Bunnings was a great success. We raised $741.30 despite the cold, showery weather. Thanks to everyone for all your efforts to raise money for Kids Hope. This enables us to pay the fees and to continue to offer the wonderful programme we run to help the children at Werribee Primary School.
A special big thank you for Geoff Gook for taking the initiative and doing all the planning for the day. (From Sandra Savory)
Youth centre coordinator
The Sunshine Uniting Church is advertising now for the employment of a Youth Centre Coordinator, 20 hours/week, one year contract.
This position arises from a goal setting process in 2016, where young people and newly arrived migrant and refugee communities were identified as high priorities for the Uniting Church to connect with. The Youth Program is a new service, targeted at local youth aged from 15-20 years.
Being a new position it will require the Co-ordinator to devote time in establishing the program and building relationships with other service providers in the area.
The Youth Program has a target date to open in mid-November 2017.
It will be a program based upon indoor recreational activities with a drop-in style component. The program will operate during some evenings and weekends in blocks of 3–4 hours.
The Centre will be overseen by the Youth Program Committee (YPC) and be under the operational management of the Co-ordinator who will be supported and assisted by a team of volunteers.
Applications close 28 September. Please contact the Rev. Ray Gormann (email@example.com) for a position description, any enquiries, and to lodge an application.

Housekeeping & Help
Operation Christmas Child
Some people have already returned their boxes for 2017, and I have transported 125 to Mitcham for processing, so we are off to a good start!
The final day for boxes will be Sunday 15 October at the 9.30 am service, where the boxes will be displayed and blessed before they are sent overseas. Boxes can be returned earlier if it suits, and I will bring them to the service on October 15. (From Margaret Gook)
Chocolate Throw—help needed
Chocolate bars (100–200 gm size) are needed for the Chocolate Throw stall at the fête – please donate and leave at the office, or give them directly to Sandra S.
Plant stall—help needed
Volunteers to help with the Plant Stall are needed. If you could assist for an hour or two, please let Carmel Woodward know as soon as possible so a roster can be worked out. Many thanks.

Have you noticed this before? The first use of the stones of the fence pre-dates the church and old manse by seven years. The church and old manse were built in 1884.
